“SCTE 235 is designed to create home environments in which both technologies can perform as intended to meet customer demand. Guarantee your MoCA network runs smoothly. “DOCSIS 3.1 and MoCA are important enabling technologies that support more powerful, flexible services,” Rob Thompson, director, network architecture for Comcast Cable, MoCA Board member, and chair of the Technical Work Group at MoCA, said in a statement. MoCA is rapidly becoming the home networking standard for delivering HD digital signals over existing coaxial cables. Per the SCTE 235 documentation (PDF), areas identified for further investigation include an analysis of MoCA 2.5 signals, recommendations for filters in “mid-split” systems (when the upstream ceiling is raised to 85 MHz), and the coexistence of DOCSIS 3.1 technology with other home networking technologies such as G.hn and HomePlug, among others. One consideration for this workaround is whether the cable provider is actually using DOCSIS 3.1 frequencies above 1002 MHz for the Internet service, frequencies that would be blocked by installing a MoCA filter on the modems input port. It was the result of a multi-year effort. The built-in MoCA WAN used by FiOS to make a coax WAN connection between an ONT and gateway uses MoCA 1.1 Band C, and specifically channel C4 (975-1025 MHz) whereas, most all (w/ few exceptions) retail MoCA adapters, which are compatible with OTA antenna and cable, operate in MoCA 1.1 Band D (1125-1525 MHz) or MoCA 2.0/2.5 Extended Band D. ![]() The next thing is to try to get rid of any in-home cable amplifiers, and to replace any splitters that arent rated for MoCA frequencies (you want your splitters to say theyve been tested/rated for operation from 5MHz to at least 1625MHz). The operational practice is based on a technical study by MoCA in cooperation with CableLabs, and created by a Special Working Group on HFC Readiness for DOCSIS 3.1 within the Network Operations Subcommittee (NOS) of the ANSI-accredited SCTE/ISBE Standards Program. So thats always the first thing to do if MoCA doesnt work well. You can put a splitter (make sure it is for MoCA) before your MoCA adapter and connect TV. Based on cable age, loss at MoCA frequencies may be a concern Drop passives will vary in performance at MoCA frequencies Signal leakage and signal ingress are both concerns in MoCA Drop passive placement in the design is critical to maintaining the 57 dB MoCA Link Budget. Yes it does transmit both Ethernet and OTA signals. The Motorola or goCoax units should be good though. I noticed that it has a frequency range of up to 1218 MHz which conflicts some Moca. Currently the cable modem gets its own coax from the dropAmp, and another port (on the dropAMp) has a moca splitter (about a foot away) with one moca device (Actiontec 2.5Gbe) is about another 1 foot away from this splitter, while the other coax (from the splitter. I just got a E31U2V1 Docsis 3.1 cable modem from Spectrum. ![]() I am using an 8-port dropAmp to feed the house. ![]() They said the calculations are valid for DOCSIS 3.1 and for MoCA 1.1 and 2.0 single channel operation. The reason is because your cable provider will use the same frequencies as the DECA adapter. I get cable internet + cable tv on the coax too. Among the key recommendations of SCTE 235 is the use of non-overlapping channels.
